If that iPhone is true, then it would be the ugliest product released by Apple in a long time. What's next...a Pippin 2 Perhaps..

So by that logic. You agree with the enforcement of a No Fly zone in Libya.

The "No Fly Zone" consists of far more than we are being told. Air strikes are being taken against Gaddafi's forces and arms (tanks being blown up).

From what I can tell, the world has entered a new phase of warfare. We choose who we want to win in a civil war (reasoning never shared with the public) or conflict of some type, then we use airpower to literally clear the way for that side to march on to power. This way we aren't in "traditional" warfare with troops on the group, but we sure as hell are doing more than just making sure Gaddafi's planes aren't in the air.

This is detached warfare, and I expect it to become the new paradigm. It's just abstract enough that the public won't view it as war costing us soldier's lives, regardless of whether military strikes are actually occurring. This will allow for the USA and/or the likeminded to continue its neverending military intervention around the globe while keeping the public detached enough to go with it, after all, "our troops will not be in harms way".

The next logical step I see in this is the replacement of our pilots with Avenger/Raptor Drones (next-gen version of the finished Predator program). Further abstraction, further detachment from the reality of warfare, this allows for governments to wage war while the public continues being disinterested as always. If "we" aren't getting hurt (aka soldiers dying) then the public rarely cares about what happens to "them" (whatever people we are attacking in a given conflict). Note how the casualties in world affairs are portrayed in American news, there could be 100 deaths as a result of a bombing somewhere, but the first thing to be reported is how many American casualties there were. Same goes for death toll reports in our ongoing wars.

This separation of the public's attention to the actual going ons in relation to warfare is truly scary stuff. We see only what we are allowed to see (war-related) from the mainstream media (see: John Pilger on imbedded journalism). We need future leaders to recognize these trends and stand against them before just accepting this stuff as part of the political machinery.

Very curious as to how you get all these cups. I keep thinking in my head that there is no way you are taking them out of the garbage, so my next thought is do you work at a coffee house?

I think it's a neat idea. Interested to see more.

Well interesting point haha These cups are actually from classmates and one is my own. It's going to be a continuous series using peoples cups that aren't from the garbage haha. I made sure to ask them for the cups before they threw them away :p

I suggest everyone give this a shot...

    http://public-consultation.org/exercise/

    Neat.

I had a surplus of $476B and solved SS 100%. I gutted military, but I bumped up United Nations, alternative energy, education, medical research, and worker re-training.

I also stopped just about all aid flowing out to other countries. I'll let Sally Struthers and the affluent private sector contribute if they want to... that is, if the affluent have anything left after the mondo taxes I dropped on them. :D

    Not sure yet,

But it looks like we may need to convert videos before we can place them onto our ipod from iTunes.

I just encoded a video using Quicktime Version 7.1.5 (available now via software update). Even after doing that, it appears that I have the option to encode it for iPod  .

    ::EDIT::
This feature is to encode videos dragged into iTunes, for your ipod.

Meaning. If you are able to drag a movie into iTunes and play it, you can now encode it to play on your Video iPod within iTunes!!

The light cut of the Myriad font is probably used to indicate thin/light weight - as is the reference to air. I suspect that it's about the sub-notebook, which will be thinner than anything else on the market.

    Other possibilities:

    1. Inflight entertainment system - Dock connectors in every seat. iTunes/iPhone style touch interface in seatback displays - deal with American Airlines/British Airways/One World Alliance.

    2. "Cloud" services - something big like making .Mac free and re-branding it to attract PC / iTunes / iPhone users

Sorry, just stating facts. Flash is a horribly inferior technology and has crippled the web from a much greater potential. I honestly have not missed it at all on my iPhone and I block it with ClickToFlash on my Macs. I would GLADLY forgo Flash if Apple can kill it forever. Web developers need to use approved open standards and stop using Flash as a crutch. And if by Apple's own image, you mean far superior open standards that are approved by the W3C, then yes!

Frankly, the vast majority of users, and developers, and content providers, DO NOT care what you personally want, no matter how much you roll your eyes.

Flash is on virtually every computer on Earth, and pretty soon it will be on virtually every smart phone as well. Except the iPhone, of course.

Flash works very well, for the vast majority of users. The fact that Apple has not expended the minimum effort required to get Flash working more efficiently in OS X, is mostly problem for only those relatively few of us, who prefer to use Mac OS.

(In my testing on OS 10.6.1, Safari is by far the worst of all browsers at handling Flash: it pushes the CPU to 77%, while Firefox and Camino stay at less than 49%. Safari is also by far the worst on Windows 7, where on the same video it runs to almost 30% of CPU, while IE8 is at 1%, and Firefox and Chrome are at 4%.

The vast majority of users enjoy what Flash provides.

And, Flash does things which would be impossible, or very hard, or prohibitively expensive, to do with other currently available technologies, and deploy them for all browsers and systems.

So, I repeat: the rest of the world DOES NOT care, that you, and a handful of weird backroom guys, have an irrational hatred of Flash. Move on.

The bottom line is, if Apple doesn't get Flash on the iPhone, it will quickly lose market share to Android. It's a HUGE missing feature, bigger than cut/paste and turn-by turn navigation and mms rolled together, and you can bet it will be advertised as such.

I think Mac sales are directly tied to the Halo affect of the iOS devices. The more they sell there, the more people open up to Mac as an alternative. With Lion having more iOS like interfaces, it will make it even more natural for new customers.

Certainly to a degree. A Part of that Halo effect is "oh my iPhone is so easy to use, maybe I should give Macs a chance"...you also have to take into account their huge marketing appeal and iOS compatibility angle. Macs are "cool" and "just work" with everything Apple.

Heh. Those were the days. 2001 where the only forum I frequented was a nirvana one and my small compact music player was a Sony mini-discman. Still have it and works to this day. Have dozens of minidiscs in the cupboard, full of old radio shows i used to listen to. Unlike those old cassettes, they sound fantastic still! :)

but the compromised code is most likely not Apple's at least.

I concur. They simply chose a Mac to be a cock. How's that for smugness?

So what happens when the owner of the MacBook closes the computer?

    Exploit defeated. :)

By George that is the best one yet. If they had their own cell network and put WiMax into the Apple TV and laptops, you could buy a .Mac subscription to download movies and access other content.

Apple will become a cell phone provider. Period. That's it.

I don't think I've seen anyone else mention it but Amazon lists a release date:

"This item will be released on January 30, 2007. Pre-order now. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com."

Now, I KNOW that date is likely to get changed, but interesting anyway.

Second, has anyone else here used the public beta? I haven't seen any comments on it in the first 3 pages, but let me tell you...it sucks! I had to take it off my PC that I am using until my MacPro arrives and went back to XP.

From my experience, Vista Beta is full of bugs and issues. Yes, I know it is still a Beta, but if it is slated for a Jan 30 release, they have a lot of work to do.

I still don't know why the average person would change from XP to Vista--it doesn't look that different and doesn't offer much more to the average websurfer/emailer.

Just my $0.02. I'm glad I made the switch back to Mac after a 10 year absence.

I never advocate piracy, but this just encourages some folks to do it. Meanwhile they are rolling in profits. Disgusting. Overreaching. Greed.
About sums it up for me...

The very world/country you live in is build on greed, theft, slavery...and here's something new for you but your probably supporting it every day. But hey whatever you do make sure not to download anything you haven't payed for

Screw it i pay a monthly bill that allows me access to the internets...so in my twisted mind i believe that since i payed for the internets, everything that is downloadable is legit :D

But Apple's server is getting hammered right now... I got through to print out the affected serial numbers, then powered down my AlBook, just to be safe, popped out the battery to see if I had a lucky number, and now that I know I do, I can't get back onto the site.

Oh well. I'll try again later.

One thing I wonder about is what the consequences of keeping the 'dangerous' battery as a back-up would be... I'm not really worried about it exploding, but will the Apple police come after me for not returning the old battery once they ship me a new one? Obviously, it would be my own fault if my laptop exploded when using the old battery, but I'm willing to take that risk.

    Cheers

Source you are absolutely pathetic yourself. Mac users, like myself, have to defend our machines. You idiots who use pc's just dont get it. You bash macs evey chance you get and i just wonder how many have actually used one for an extended period of time. You cant honeslty tell me that the very first time you used a pc you were able to figure everything out. I cant tell if it was your first machines but i will tell you this. People who use macs for the first time generally have an easier time than pc users do.

Now think that over and realise. it is a personal preference. Not a defining factor of who a person is.

    PS. Stop bashing macs!!!!!! (bast*rd)

You know what, Steve never said Apple would NEVER do a video iPod. What he said was that video just didn't make sense at the time. For one thing, he said that there was practically zero demand from iPod users for video. Then he qualified his statement by saying that the situation might be different in the future, but the media being what it is, his comment was reduced to the overly simplistic (but easy to report), "APPLE WILL NEVER MAKE A VIDEO IPOD."

He didn't really say that either.

    http://www.alwayson-network.com/comments.php?id=11002_0_1_0_C

"You're always fighting things that are opposed to each other. As an example, take the PlayStation 3. It's a great game machine, but it's not such a great music player. There are many reasons for that, but the biggest reason is that it doesn't fit in your pocket, does it? Games need nice big screens. Music players need to fit in your pocket. So you have to pick one and optimize for it, and the second thing you do will certainly be suboptimal. Maybe you can do it, but it will be suboptimal.

So you can do video on these devices if you want to, but the things that are suboptimal about it are the screen size and the battery lifethings like that. The fundamental problem here is...Headphones are a miraculous thing. You put on a pair of headphones and you get the same experience as with a great pair of speakers. Well, there's no such thing as headphones for video. There's not something I can carry with mesomething I can put onthat will give me the same experience that I get when I'm watching my 50-inch plasma display at home. And until somebody invents that, you're going to have these opposing constraints."

Makes it sound like no video ipod, and yet he released one just a couple months later, even though the big constraints he listed hadn't been eliminated.

People already piss and moan about it. If apple really wanted to have a low environmental impact they would build their products where they have Higher standards for environmental quality.

They do. Changed their packaging to minimum needed as best as possible.
Using material that can be recycled, pcb free cables etc.etc.

If they give the production to FoxConn they can only get involved to a certain point. Too much demands on their partners and they won't get any production.

The Chinese and other countries have and still are learning that at the end of the day, they need trees, clean water etc., so they do adapt.

Because there is a lot of new technology out, they go through the environmental adaptation process faster than others in previous years.

And now let the angry "I still can't even find one to buy!" rants.

I'm very amused by this and would love to have been a fly on the wall at Apple when this was all discussed.
