Does anyone in Australia (or anywhere else similar) know exactly when your education discount no longer applies for uni? Your last day of classes? Your last exam? Graduation day 2-3 months later? Because I should be finishing in February and I wanted to know how long to hold out. Will Leopard be out by Jan/Feb? Or at least a free upgrade for laptops purchased late Jan/early Feb?
Well... I haven't gone to school in over a year and a half, but I still have my student ID so I keep it in my wallet and use it whenever I buy stuff at the Apple Store. No expiration date printed on the ID

I bet this is a preview of what Leopard is gonna look like.
Nooooouuuuu!!!
I'll stick Leopard DVD in a shredder if thats what it ends up looking like. Apple just managed to bring the windows UI (looks like sony connect) into OS X. Thanks a lot. :(

i agree that the banner is made of all current products, but with the larger Power Mac case it worries me that there will not be a redesign this time around for the casing :(

To those opposed to doing drastic cuts.....what do you plan to do to deal with the hundreds of millions affected if the country goes bankrupt?
As for our military.....we are so massively superior to any other nation, it's not like we are going to be at risk even if we do massive cutbacks in military spending.
Again, the military is inextricable from the economy. Not only are large sectors heavily dependent on military spending (like the town of 150,000 just west of me, that would utterly collapse if its two bases were closed), but a weaker military would risk tremendous losses in international commerce as foreign nations take back control of their own markets and resources absent the pressure of potential American military action.
If you want to cut the military budget significantly, you had best have a really good plan in place to deal with the consequences. I think it is unlikely that our brand of "capitalism" would last long without a strong Pentagon.
(Which could be a good thing, in the long run, but a treacherous bridge to cross.)

Anyone who was expecting more from this update was living in a bit of a dreamland. The MacBook design is the newest of all the form factors from Apple and from the sales figures they have no reason yet to think about changing it. Incremental updates are nice to see, price cuts are even nicer.
As for what we're now going to get at MacWorld. I think iTV, video iPod and BluRay will be the main talking points there, along with a small update across the range to support 802.11n. I don't think Leopard will be ready by January.

Reset PRAM, apparently that broke CoreDuoTemp sensor because mine is reading 12C, iStatPro is reading 12 C as well, but smcFanControl is reading 72 C. Week 27 MacBook by the way. So my suggestion is, if your MacBook has no issues or you are fine with how it is running right now, DO NOT UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE.
Just become some hacky software to read chip temperatures broke doesn't mean you shouldn't install an important firmware update.
Didn't you see the white 'just kidding' above the picture?
Once I started the rumor of the black Macbook actually beeing made of aluminum with some black vinyl on it (thus the $150 premium). A week later, I heard from someone totally messing up his Macbook trying to remove 'the black layer' on his brand new Macbook with a cutter. I laughed my ass of for a week. Totally worth it. :D
Duuude, you're soooo cool (and quite a fibber).

My prediction is that the next iPhone will go on sale Friday, 11/11/11, just in time for Christmas sales. Apple can't let a cool date like that go by without something big happening. My guess is that it will called iPhone 4G, not iPhone 5.

I think Mac sales are directly tied to the Halo affect of the iOS devices. The more they sell there, the more people open up to Mac as an alternative. With Lion having more iOS like interfaces, it will make it even more natural for new customers.
IMO it's a combination of many things.
Yes, the idevices, but then comes word of mouth. Nothing is more powerful than when you have a friend or colleague who shows you how easily everything works and integrates.
The learning curve of a Mac is also not steep.
Overall I think the market for non professional users will shift away from desktop machines as the "books" become more and more powerful.
Plus their new advertising slogan
All you need is a Mac and you'll never go back!

I wanted a silver 8GB one. Now I'm torn :(
EDIT: Made up my mind. 4GB silver and the extra £40 in my pocket. Besides, silver'll look better in my Bose SoundDock :)

Yeah, not really into that mentality either. As for the previous 2 posters. thanks for the response, but it wasn't necessary to patronize me as if I don't know what a serious relationship entails, and make assumptions. You didn't really provide any further insight, besides 'I need to keep the peace'. I stated in my post, the only issue should be about money. If you can't afford it, you certainly shouldn't even ask your wife permission to buy it, its just irresponsible and childish. If you can afford it, the wife shouldn't be able to stop you 'just because'. Does she run her purchases by you? Doubtful. Not every ****ing thing needs to be a joint decision where 'approval' is required. In many relationships, what would happen if the husband refused to give permission to the wife to buy something she wants (ie. an overpriced piece of fabric or shiny rock)? He would be seen as cheap, assholish, rules with an 'iron fist', controlling, a bad husband, etc etc. It basically wouldn't stand. But the wife can have veto for purchasing decisions as she pleases, even though the guy brings home most or all of the income? That's called unreasonable, so **** that ****. But nice to know you're all cool with it. I guess they have the power to refuse sex, which leverage.
I TOTALLY agree with you!! I find it sad and disturbing at the same time. I can't even imagine that my girlfriend would actually tell me that i can't buy the ipad. Unless, of course, she has a good reason for it. I would find it normal when she tells me that it's, due to financial reasons, better not to buy the ipad, as a woman certainly should take responsibility over the household. If she doesn't have a good reason: I think it's really shameful for a woman to have the rudeness to tell a man what he HAS to do and what not. Why? Because they are the ones who have been complaining for years about men's domination and striving after equality. Is this equality?
In those relationships either two things are going on: 1. You picked the wrong wife. 2. you SOMEHOW must have lost your masculinity on the way of marrying a woman.
Oh, and just to prevent people from judging me: I'm not the kind of man who 'rules with iron fist'. I just find it shameful that nowadays men seem to be in control of women. Don't you guys think this is ridiculous?! It indeed strikes me that, like Slurpy2k8 said, men would be seen as assholish and cheap whenever they refuse to do something for a women. Things i've been seeing lately are definitely NOT about equality.
For the men who are in total ridiculous control of women: Please, get back at least some of your masculinity...

The Iphone 4 camera takes amazing shots right now. If this is actually an improvement, then it would rock.
But since these boards screamed at all of us non camera experts last time for thinking that mega pixels mean a better picture, I will wait to hear about the quality.

Wal-Mart is a massive contributor to officeholders in both major U.S. political parties, but especially those in the Republican Party -- so anyone who seriously thinks the company will be given pause by the probable illegality of its proposed actions is dreaming.

Steve is smooth, and he gets the point.
There is nothing more to ruin the moment, whether it be with a pretty girl, or with someone you are having a friendly convesation with, than to start fumbling with MENUS. The spontanity is lost once 2 people need to remove their Zunes from their pockets, go through a few menus, and then send a song over wireless. THEN listen to it. ALONE.
Wireless will come on iPod when its good and ready. It isnt right now.
motulist: you are right on cue. You just described what will be the real Zune experience.
Actually, the whole thing kind of reminds me of the whole internet thing where we had that Push technology. What was that stupid application that Windows users ran?
http://www.dbmsmag.com/9703d02.html
Anyhow, Zune is like that. You have to push it to someone. The better idea would be to have people be able to "open up" their Zunes (or iPods), and people could look around on their Zune (or iPod) and see what people are listening to around them. And if they like it, then grab it and let them play it for X amount of times or days. More of a PULL technology.
Still, just sharing earbuds is more social, but if you had broadcasting on an iPod or Zune, that would make more sense, at least to me....

It's true. The Mac Pro service manual is now available to technicians, which includes instructions for replacing the CPUs.
I confirmed it too-technicians who have the manual, can go to page 65/66 to see the 2 sockets.
No Xserve manual yet.

Its nothing to do with skin color and everything to do with a large portion growing up in single parent families that don't teach their children anything about being respectful human beings. I don't buy that racism causes this. It's their choice whether to remain a family after conceiving a child, money has little to do with it.
