I don't particularly believe this. I don't think Wal-Mart is ever threatened by anything except a union.
It's just like what happened to Music. Even if it takes off on the iTunes Store, I dont think that the sales of DVDs will be affected very much. So I dont see what the deal would be. Unless its a union

If Apple OC doesn't come up with a solid reason as to why Canada or the US need to maintain a large standing military with enormous costs (such as threat level etc.) I am going to call troll.

I think that is about right. Macs are still a premium and premium priced product. There is a limited market that can afford premium priced products. You can get a mini-tower system from HP/Dell/Acer for $700 and it costs > $2000 to get a similar performing system from Apple (even if the Apple does come with more "features"). Many people can't afford or justify the price difference.
Please. A Macbook costs about $1,000. There will be people who deliberately go for something cheaper, but the majority of people can _afford_ it. The "similarly performing system" to the mini tower is the iMac for $1199. And people who are poor but clever know that in the long term, quality is cheaper - usually the best thing to buy is the cheapest of the best, which would be for example the MacBook. It will still be running fine when you bought the second replacement for a cheaper laptop.
Which reminds me that when people look at these sales numbers, they look at unit sales. They don't look at revenue. But how are you going to compare, if customer A buys one MacBook and uses it for five years, while customer B buys a cheap laptop every two years? Makes me wonder what is the percentage of Macs in actual use.
And all the Apple haters claim the "iToys" are responsible for the immense growth. Nah, people just want a PC that works and its called a Mac!
iPod, iPhone and iPad _are_ brilliant advertising for the Mac, so they surely help selling Macs by making people look at them and considering them. Once people look at them, they are quite good at selling themselves. Obviously the haters always claim that people buying either Macs or iDevices are just gullible idiots and Apple's success is due to marketing alone. How stupid do they think people are?
Sarcasm? Hard to tell. It's more polite to use some indication (smiley, text note) since there are many non-native English participants on this forum.
Much more important and polite is to write in clear and error-free English. For example, "could of" instead of "could have" doesn't make any sense whatsoever to someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with the English language. To a native English reader, "there" and "they're" is basically the same word (most recognise if the wrong one is used but it doesn't stop them understanding); to a non-native reader, they are totally, completely different and using the wrong one turns a simple sentence into a puzzle.

I really hope he isn't under the Keynesian impression that war is good for one's economy. This is the mark of an empire in decline.
Not this crap about Obama being born in Kenya again!
Can you point out any war in history that meets your ivory tower qualifications?
The civil war, world war two and the star wars trilogy.

Where did you get that chair. If you have the link please link it in here. I know many people would like one.
I got it from Ikea. Here is the link to the UK Ikea site:
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20103101
Not sure if it is available internationally but I can't see any reason why not.
It's a really nice chair and I especially like the excellent lumbar support and useful headrest (I'm 5ft10 so YMMV). The breathable backrest is also good to avoid a sweaty back if sitting for a while.
Edit: Just checked, the Orlando Ikea store has 15 of these chairs in stock at $199 each. :)

Switched to macs back in 2001 and while I love the OS I have had a continuous stream of hardware problems with all apple products I have bought:
iBook G3: logic board died and replaced 3 times
iMac G5: CPU got so hot the machine almost melted! So far I have had the logic board replaced 3 times.
MacBook: Random shutdown syndrome, faulty mouse and track pad, palm rest discoloration. Currently in for repair again!
iPod: hard disk and battery both died
EDIT: and don't get me started about the abomination that is the so called mighty mouse. The thing barely lasted a week!
Apple have really got to get there quality control sorted out. So what if the OS is great if the continual hardware faults mean you can't actually use the damn thing!
One cheesed off mac user.

I wouldn't get the black. I had one, and it looked great fresh from the box, but looked old and tired 30 minutes later with grease marks all over it. Stick with the white as the smooth plastic finish doesn't show marks and is easier to clean.
Or maybe just wash your hands when you're done eating fried chicken?

1. Big :apple:TV upgrade with bigger avaiable HD, 1080p output and PVR functionality, along with iTunes movie rentals.
2. iPhone 2.0 with up to 32 GB flash and the first wave of official 3rd party apps (those developers that were seeded with the SDK early). 3G data is also a longshot.
3. One more thing: MacBook Lite. Flash-based HD, external optical drive, low-power Penryn CPU, Intel integrated graphics, 10 hr battery life. In an aluminum case with multitouch interface. Apple's "best portable computer ever".

So what would you do with this edu discount option, now that everything's been updated to the C2D line:
13.3" MBP (White - mid level) for $1199
13.3 MBP (Black) for $1399
OR
15.4 MBP for $1799.
What's the sweet spot -- if you're doing all the basics plus occasional video editing of short commercial projects and the periodic photoshop use?

Never buy a mac for hardware...Because they do not have the best.
ROFLMAO!
That's as funny as the RIM CEO defending the PlayBook by saying email "really isn't a core element."

Also, it's nice to know that us iOS users are unaffected by the latest Flash exploit for Android.

Not bad for not being the "best" because Windows and Android is better right?

Bought the black one today.
Great product.
It is. Got mine yesterday. It looks fab, but above all it sounds like my old ( and broken) shuffle. And that's good. No, it's excellent.

I would rather Apple do iPhone5 right then be pressured to release it at the typical release cycle.
++ 100% agree.
No need to rush things out to fullfil some artificial release date because people 'expect' it to be released. Get it it right and release it when its ready. No need to rush out half baked stuff - that will only fire back.

This is almost the exact post I wrote yesterday on the last 4.3 update thread. It is driving ne nuts. And I'm sure I was able to distinguish between texts and emails before. I'm filing it under bug too.
Mr. Hatbasket and MacFreak:
In case you are curious, I just had my wife text me (I have 3G3 running iOS 4.3) and I set my phone to vibrate. When she texted, it only vibrated once. So I'm guessing there is a setting that isn't working for you. Since you are saying that you know several people this is happening to, then I doubt it would be a file corruption issue.
I hope this helps.

So do we keep waiting for updated Macbooks and Macbook Pro's or not?
Yeah I'm wondering the same.
Every manufacturer and their mother has announced Core 2 Duo portables, and most of them consumer models too. Sheesh, I mean there are Core 2 Duo tablets, if they can do that, Apple can do bloody MacBooks.

Subtle ?? That's not the current iPhone interface when in a call.
It's blaring right at you.look at that iPhone. It shows the blue area at the top.Go make a call and see how it looks.
This is a new iPhone or creative license.
Or that the pic was either taken while the unit was mid transition, or it's a faulty display

As for "feminized culture" being associated with Apple products, I doubt it has anything to do with "elitism" per se. Apple tends to give technology a very "feminine" touch - meaning the products tend to have very curvy, attractive, almost sensual lines. These aren't button-festooned franken-devices with missile launchers bolted on. Attractive, minimalist design will always have some association with feminine sensibilities. This is normal.
Thanks for the great chuckle! If well-designed minimalist packaging is feminine then Red Green has the prototype of the "man's" version of an iPad. Hint: It comes in duct tape silver and pre-loaded with "Pull my Finger" and "Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards" apps.

Retail price for Vista Blows, my next system will be a Mac.I couldn't agree more
My next system will a Mac Pro or whatever the towers are called next spring/summer but I'll still buy windows to go with OSX. I just wont be paying anything close to $400 even if I do decide to go with Vista Ultimate. ;)
