Integrate motion sensors! With a flick of the wrist, the page will turn. Hot Damn!
Heh, and just like a real book, if there's a sudden draft, all the pages will flick past and you'll lose you place.
Considering that one of the first uses for most new technologies (such as the "book" and "moving pictures") has traditionally been porn, why not have an emergency "boss" or "wife" button to flick to a boring business report or something else preconfigured. Of course that might only work if they don't know of the feature themselves. iPorn. Gotta Love It.

It's not actually my setup - I just wanted to drop a link to it, since I believe it blasts most other peoples collections away :)
Then, technically you are using his setup pics without his permission.
The least you should do is put the original poster's name as credit.

This seems to be a great upgrade, finally. 64bit, use of multicores, and focus on editing, very nice. But we have to wait for the other FCS suite apps. Also, what about the plugins? Do we have to throw our plugin collection in the trash?
On the "professional" discussion:
Professional (and valued) editors are not the ones that can use complex software, but those who understand what film editing is, in its aesthetical complexity.
On the other hand, everyone can edit a movie already; Whats the difference if he's using final cut, imovie, avid or nero? Filmmaking isn't what it used to be.
You can buy a camera and a mac/pc and you're done. Lots of crappy movies out there of course, but nobody can stop you if you have something to offer.
And there are some not-so-professional movies that have a lot to offer.

Well, going on national TV and basically challenging the hacker community doesn't really qualify as obscure, now does it?
People keep mentioning this.. does anyone have a link to the add that specifically challenges hackers?

Your point would be valid IF SHE HAD A FAMILY TO HAUL AROUND ANYMORE.
Both her children have their own vehicles and they no longer take long family vacations in the car anymore.
The wasting of a finite resource and pollution put out by a vehicle that large to drive 3 miles to and from the grocery store has no justification.
And yes, I do feel good about myself. I drive a vehicle that gets 95+ mpg.
This is America, and that person DOES NOT NEED TO JUSTIFY HERSELF TO YOU! If that V10 Excursion ever gets in an accident with your "95+ MPG" car, it will illustrate one very good reason to drive an Excursion, and you will not survive. Even with a five star crash rating, these newer lighter cars are death traps when fitted against large SUVs, these crash ratings do not take into account the advantage created by additional weight. Also, if your considering CO2 as "pollution", are you aware of the fact that only 0.28% of all greenhouse gasses are from human activity ? Not 28%, but 0.28%, the rest is mainly water vapor. With all of the resources that the world is throwing at reducing CO2 emissions we could actually do something useful instead like end world hunger. What we are doing to reduce CO2 is kind of like pissing into the ocean to warm it up, maybe it makes you better but it will not work. Enjoy that "95MPG" golf cart you drive.

Hi
I don't post here much but I'm always interested in people's opinions on different aspects of the Mac world. I looked on here to see the general consensus concerning the SMC update and after reading everyone's thoughts concerning it I was wondering if it is just a revision of the original SMC update, and that in fact the old SMC update was the cause of RSD?
When I saw the first SMC update available I avoided it because some people found that if they didn't have fan problems before they suddenly did after the fix. I'm wondering, has anyone who didn't install the first SMC update had RSD?
I didn't install it and I haven't had these problems, so I'm thinking that maybe the RSD was in fact a firmware problem rather than a hardware one and now they've released this new firmware to rectify their fault.
Just a thought..

Also notice, the big Apple logo on the banners has an Aluminium finish. Hence the stroke. This is the first time it has a texture like this, does it?
*Edit: Hell I was wrong. They used this kind of logo last year.*

I feel it is highly likely we will see a new tiny laptop from Apple at some point in 2007.
Intel will be releasing Merom next spring, AND an ultra-low voltage version for tiny laptops.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2#Merom_2
There used to be more detail there but it seems to have gone.
Still baffled as to why Apple stopped the 12'' PB, but maybe they felt they wouldn't sell enough in 9 months to recover the costs of designing an intel core version, before needing a major redesign for the 2007 tiny laptop.
Wait wait.... we're getting all hot and bothered about Core 2 Duo... and you're telling me a new chip will be out in a few months...
I can't keep up!

Old timer here, I still have a first gen iPod. The kind with a mechanical jog wheel...
What you're all forgetting is that, before the iPod, MP3 players were either the size of a Diskman (remember those), or only held 16 songs. The iPod was entering a market that didn't exist, and it was also the first iProduct Apple Computer Inc released. Nobody expected it, nobody cared about it.
You still see the same attitude on these boards, when someone says "I don't care about the iPad 2, I just want my Core i7 MBP!" There's no difference, except now we've seen that iProducts do sell, and don't laugh them off so easily...
You can't tell me you wouldn't laugh and make the same sort of comments if Apple released a clothing line. ;)

Give this man/woman/fish (*delete as applicable*) a prize. In a nutshell, this is precisely why Adobe Flash isn't available on the iPhone - Adobe have never been able to make it work under OS X. I have a 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and Flash consumes approximately 120% processor time just to playback a low-resolution YouTube video. Under no circumstances would I want to bring code that requires so much resources to do so little to a mobile device. Can you imagine what this would do to your browsing experience and battery life?
I have a lot against Adobe Flash but it is a fact of life and therefore I would like access to Flash content on the iPhone but it has to be done in a way that is appropriate and, right now, I have absolutely no faith that Adobe has a solution that wouldn't destroy the user experience.
Isn't the user experience destroyed when we can't open a page or go to a link because we don't have Flash? I know what you're saying, but it's destroyed either way (too sloooow or nothing).

I'm hoping the FaceTime bugs are addressed. On the iPhone 4 and iPad 2, I get the cached image or black screen instead of live camera. A restart fixes it in case you experience it.

I hate how you have to download the entire OS every time there's a small update like this. 666MB for a few bug fixes... Also, what's up with the 666MB? Maybe we should stay away from this update guys lol.
Same here! It's an "Apple" product with a "666"MB OS...anyone else thinking that's strangely close to a story with a snake in a garden? Haha. Kinda interesting.

According to the Wikipedia article, a Home Basic upgrade is only $99.95, which is cheaper than the standard $129 for OS X releases. Then again, education customers can often get Mac OS for around $70 in some cases, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if there will be education discounts for Vista or how much they will be. With so many versions and price points for Vista and an unknown price tag for Leopard, it's very complicated to make comparisons...
Now one of the big questions is, who can get a Home Basic upgrade and how much are Home Basic users missing out on if they get that as opposed to Aero, etc.? No one knows for sure all the details at this point and we won't know for sure until official announcements are made. Although I would take OS X over Windows any day, we have to be cautious I think before saying Mac's upgrades are cheaper than Windows'. It looks like in many cases they will be, but not necessarily in all cases.
You are mixing apples and oranges here sport. Vista BASIC does not have any comparison in the Apple world. You have to compare the Premium version of Vista.

So what would you do with this edu discount option, now that everything's been updated to the C2D line:
13.3" MBP (White - mid level) for $1199
13.3 MBP (Black) for $1399
OR
15.4 MBP for $1799.
What's the sweet spot -- if you're doing all the basics plus occasional video editing of short commercial projects and the periodic photoshop use?

Steve looks unhealthy. He's not as sharp as he used to be. His keynotes were flawless. He stuttered several times, forgot what he was saying in mid sentence, and handed a considerable amount of the keynote to other people. Steve was a control freak in past WWDC keynotes.
I think he may be in not-so-good health. But I've said that before.
I had the same reaction... he almost looked gaunt. I just compared shots of Steve yesterday with his appearance at the January Macworld Expo, and there's a noticeable difference. Plus, the tag team approach to demoing Leopard's features made it seem as if he needed time to rest in between the parts of his presentation.

Apple could probably produce a 500gb classic without much of a price difference. Anybody tried upgrading one or putting an HD in a touch?
I doubt it if 220GB HDD is the biggest this small HDD available currently

I use one with my MacBook Pro, I just feel it is cleaner and easier to use than a mouse and more convenient than the MacBook's (when at a desk).
Huh, easier is usually the word I'd never think I'd hear when a trackpad is compared to a mouse. I may have to play with one...

IMHO, the MacBook Pros won't come out until after the iPad has been shipped. As much as we'd like to think that Apple would take a "ship them both, they are in different market segments" approach the fact remains that it would compete, to a certain extent, for consumer dollars and Apple isn't going to dilute iPad sales like that.

Ridiculous that Apple would let this story post and NOT have it's site already configured to handle the inquries.
