New nanos would be nice. I promised my girlfriend a new mid-range nano, as soon as they were updated, for her birthday - and that was two weeks ago... hopefully she can get her birthday present within a month of her birthday... :)

Anyone knows how the GeForce 7600 GT compares to the Radeon X1X00 series?
Similar to the X1800 GT?
Must be better/faster than the X1600....
I believe the GeForce 7600 GT is on par with the X1800 GT, faster in some cases, slower in others. It's a pretty good graphics card. I would just like to see the GeForce 7600 GT bump out the 7300 GT on Mac Pro.

The banner is current products (other than the Tiger disc) and is being waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy over analysed.
You are right!
Nothing new here!
I'm really looking forward to see what's happening on 10th August, even if I am not in the market for new gear, except for a new iPod.
A week to go. Nice.

It's bad enough that the suite will be updated every year (.5 edition) and now the subscription too?
Am I understanding correctly: no updates for the mid-term suite for those that plunge for the more expensive bi-annual package? Boo.
I feel bad for all the designers/photographers/filmmakers (part of companys and esp. freelance/new graduates). How the hell will folks be able to afford upgrading every year and/or two years. This doesn't include the time and possible addition outlay to work around the learning curves for all new bells, whistles, bs etc.
I guess I stopped using Adobe's product at the right time. This just makes my wallet and brain cringe massively.

Well, I have a 15"PB, A1148, and serial of battery is 3K537xxxx..., but it says no-go on website....
Good question. The FAQ you've linked to quotes:

While the actual recall site, https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/ (which is linked from the FAQ site) quotes:

I expect the dust will settle, eventually.

Don't worry about the formatting, it's just a hard drive, they're all standard.
If it is an external, just plug it in, open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility, select the new drive from the list on the left, select the "Erase" tab at the top, and "erase" it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"
Thanks, you saved me a lot of stress. After reading the specs and seeing it was for PC's only, I tried to cancel the order. Sorry, I'm not a tech guru. But why would they state something like that and possibly limit their sales, when all they have to say is it can be formatted to whatever system you have?

iStudentUK, I understand what you are saying and agree with some of it. People do tend to develop their own worldview and then pick and choose external sources (religion, social groups, philosophies, etc.) to support the view they have already decided upon.
However, I can't agree that the Bible is "neutral" or relative in that it can correctly be interpreted in any way someone chooses. The Bible is clear in it's express purpose as God's revelation of himself to mankind. The Bible is judged and interpreted against itself using the literary and textual tools of interpretation that we have available to us.
Like all communication it can only be correctly interpreted in light of the intended meaning of it's original author. This is where faith comes into the process. Followers of Christ hold to the belief that it is God's inspired and inerrant word. The living God is it's author and he inspired men to write within their own historical and literary context to specific audiences at a specific time. All of these contexts become clues that help guide us to His intended meaning. One of many gods staged a coup d'tat in heaven, or so claimed the exiled priests who wanted to assert their authority over their congregations by differentiating themselves from the competition. The only difference between the Hebrews and the other nearby cultures is that their priests claimed that the chief god they all shared had demoted his team to messenger status. In so doing, of course, they also slighted every other religion.

Yeah, but they have to do something about the rampant scratching and the ease with which one can break it. Fully metal one seems like a good way to do that.
Exactly. The uproar from consumers concerning their scratched iPod video's and nano's last year was pretty loud. Just about everyone who had a new iPod video or nano commented on how easily it scratched or scuffed. Especially considering an iPod video should have a crystal clear image free from scratches, you can bet apple has heard and understands that as well. Whether we'll see metal enclosures, who knows? Though it's looking more likely, at least from the consistency of the rumors (ahem.) Regardless, I think it's safe to say the new iteration of the iPod video especially will see scratch resistance improvements.
Scratching the screen of a standard MP3 playing iPod didn't really matter all that much. You didn't really look at the screen anyway (unless it was a photo iPod.) We do care if it's an iPod that we watch video's, TV shows, and movies on. I hope the next iPod video device I buy has some better safegaurds against scratching and scuffing, because I don't like any of the 3rd party solutions.
Why is it that some people stubbornly keep calling it Memron, when it's obviously Merom?
Maybe it's a just a simple mistake?

Took them long enough for gapless playback - I'm going to give it the Dark Side of the Moon and Moby Everything is Wrong Nonstop DJ Mix tests when I get home.
Anyone been playing with gapless so far? How do you like it?
Ugly, ugly duckling though - not the prettiest iTunes out there.

Steve is smooth, and he gets the point.
There is nothing more to ruin the moment, whether it be with a pretty girl, or with someone you are having a friendly convesation with, than to start fumbling with MENUS. The spontanity is lost once 2 people need to remove their Zunes from their pockets, go through a few menus, and then send a song over wireless. THEN listen to it. ALONE.
Wireless will come on iPod when its good and ready. It isnt right now.
motulist: you are right on cue. You just described what will be the real Zune experience.
Actually, the whole thing kind of reminds me of the whole internet thing where we had that Push technology. What was that stupid application that Windows users ran?
http://www.dbmsmag.com/9703d02.html
Anyhow, Zune is like that. You have to push it to someone. The better idea would be to have people be able to "open up" their Zunes (or iPods), and people could look around on their Zune (or iPod) and see what people are listening to around them. And if they like it, then grab it and let them play it for X amount of times or days. More of a PULL technology.
Still, just sharing earbuds is more social, but if you had broadcasting on an iPod or Zune, that would make more sense, at least to me....

And just like Vista, who the hell knows when thats gonna be?
Zuning (or whatever the hell it is) is a whole load of nonsense. Only about 97.1% of all hot chicks have no friggin clue how to do anything on their iPods other than play music (calenders, contacts, equaliser). You expect that blonde sitting across from you at the airport to know Zuning? Well she's the one who routinely clicks on "U R hte 1th vistir!! U won a PINK Ipod Nano!!! CLICK HERE" links...
HA! Good luck

Only because people are dumb and think that they always need to be using the best computer. Hate to break it, but the MacBook isn't the best.
so are you saying that if someone wants a macbook right now, is to go out and buy one this instant? Even though it's 6 months old and the price hasn't dropped?

I can't play more than 1 song before it crashes. I went ahead and appzapped the friggin program and started with a totally fresh install and I'm having the same problem. It plays 1 song and then crashes.
Another thing I noticed is that it misreports song length by a few seconds. It's reporting them too short. It plays out until the end and then backs up a second or two, then crashes.
Anyone else?
iTunes 7
10.4.7
PB 12"
Repair your permissions before and after each install. Mine did some correction to iTunes framework.

I updated the wife's room a bit. Cinema Display against the wall.
Very nice with the Cinema Display on the wall. Great family photo as well; my family pictures are always awful. :)

'fixed' for me.
ironically the DAY they released the update.my macbook started shutting down intermittingly..
instaleld it..works fine so far.as for the fans..they still go 'nuts' when i run a few videos on youtube..is THAT normal?
like they get pretty loud ugh
The loud fan ISN'T normal, and it's something I've been fighting about with Apple ever since I bought this POS machine a day after they were released. I'm on my second one now (the first one was replaced because it was broken right out of the box), and this one sounds like a jet airplane getting ready for take off, with the turbines winding up and down.
What particularly makes me upset is that we've got two MacBooks in my family, mine and my wife's, and hers is completely silent. When the fan does kick in on her machine, it makes a nice "whoosh" sound of air being pushed, and nothing else. Mine make this whiney noise coming from the fan itself, so loud you can't even heard the "whoosh" of air being moved.
My MacBook has already been in AppleCare once for a fan replacement, as well as the heat-sink replacement. I had hoped this new firmware would slow the darned fan down, but nope--it's still buzzing away like an electric razor.
I've owned five Apple laptops prior to this one (dating back to a PowerBook 520), and this MacBook is by far the worst one of the bunch. Worse even than my "flaming" PowerBook 5300 (which still works and doesn't make a peep).

Apple also doesn't have to sell their products in every store. I am sure Apple could say that they couldn't do that if they want to continue selling the iPad 2. I'd be very surprised if Apple knew about this and allowed it.
My guess is that since managers are pressuring the sales staff to sell the add-ons so hard, that they are just saying its required.
Working in a retail shop (photo goods); I can say that margins on hard goods is so razor thin, requiring ad-ons makes sense. It also keeps scalpers away for the likes of the iPad 2.

As for tomorrow, I think it makes as much sense as anything at this point. Apple is facing two weeks of silence since the excitement of the pre-order is over and the release of the iPad has some time to come. It'd be a good way to stay in the news to release (or at least officially announce) updates on existing lines.
Correlating the release of the MBP with the availability of the iPad might get some people to come in for one and buy the other (higher margin on the iPad) or buy both even (Be really sweet if there was a discount for getting both). Hard to get people to buy an iPad, and then come back in a few weeks for a MBP, although how many people would really be probable customers for both I don't really know. I'll probably wind up with both eventually, but I'll wait it out for a 2nd generation iPad unless something like the Notion Ink Adam winds up being as cool in reality as it is in concept. I'm definitely in for a new MBP I think, although my personal experiences with windows 7 have been great so far (Vaio Desktop and Samsung Netbook) so if the new MBPs still have C2Ds (doubtful) or haven't figured out how to transition to a discreet GPU on the fly I might consider a high end PC at this point. Same price, and if you're not stupid about what you download and run avg the experience between 7 and OS X isn't nearly as different as when Vista was around, I wouldn't say it is better than OS X, they're different, but I like it just as well for what I need.
For now, just have to cross our fingers that tomorrow will be the day Steve Jobs makes even more money off of us all :)
Just out of curiosity, how many of you waiting for the new MBP either have ordered an iPad or are actually considering it? I'm intrigued, but solely for using it as a litigation tool, I don't really know how I see it fitting in with the MBP market but would love to know what you all think.

so what do the experts say to that? Does it mean a step up, down or a side-step on the professional–consumer scale?
Final Cut Pro is already professional. New version is even better.
